Another perfect late-winter day, in Ocean City, Maryland, full of sunshine, with temperatures in the mid-50s. More than a few folks were out enjoying the boardwalk, and even the beach, kind of surprising for a Tuesday afternoon in March. I’ll take it as a good omen for the summer season to come. However, cloudy weather is expected to begin rolling in on Wednesday.

The smell of fresh lumber was in the air between 12th and 14th Streets, where workers have recently completed rebuilding two blocks of boardwalk. On a small section at 14th St., the town engineers are conducting a test of different boardwalk materials, including traditional lumber, and one or two samples that look synthetic. I think some of those boards may be made from recycled plastic.

Ocean City is testing five different boardwalk materials near The Commander Hotel at 14th Street.
