Weather update, 3:30 p.m. Friday: That high-pressure system has now delivered us clear blue skies and bright sunshine. It feels warmer than 71.

Weather update, 1:30 p.m. Friday: That cool front brought welcome relief from the heat. We had light rain Friday morning, but now it’s clear and partly sunny. High today, 71. Low tonight, 59. Saturday is still expected to be dry but partly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of rain late Saturday. High Saturday, 68. Come to Ocean City and enjoy the last big weekend of summer, the first weekend of fall.

Weather update, 5:15 p.m. Thursday: It’s been a hot, humid day in Ocean City, no rain, sunshine alternating with overcast. I understand we have a 30 percent chance of showers tonight, and a 40 percent chance of showers Friday morning, clearing Friday afternoon. High temperature on Friday, 72, down to 59 Friday night. Saturday still looks like a dry day, temperatures in the high 60s.

Welcome to fall! Summer is a long season in Ocean City, until suddenly it’s over. Labor Day has come and gone; Tuesday, Sept. 22, was the first day of autumn. Can we already be nearing the end of September? Things must be getting pretty quiet in Ocean City, right?

Actually, that would be half true. The weekdays are quiet, but we still have busy weekends in September, and even October. The Boardwalk is open, but not as crowded as in mid-summer. Last weekend definitely was NOT quiet in Ocean City. It was Bike Week. We aren’t talking bicycles. We’re talking Harley-Davidsons. Vroom-Vrooom!

This weekend, Thursday, Sept. 24, through Sunday, Sept. 27, will be even busier for Ocean City businesses, but it will be pleasantly quiet for visitors. It’s the 35th Annual Sunfest Weekend in Ocean City.

Four big-top tents are up on the Inlet Parking Lot at the south end of the resort — a food tent, two arts-and-crafts tents, and a big entertainment tent. Live music all day, every day, and hay rides on the beach. Headline entertainment evenings at 8 p.m. The Village People, Thursday evening; Little Big Town, Friday night; and Rick Springfield, Saturday night. On Sunday, the Pixies Three and The Avalons will perform at 4 p.m.

It looks like we’ll have nice, late-September weather for Sunfest. We’ve had some cool days recently, but warm weather returned Wednesday.  The high temperature will be around 84 on Thursday, with only a 30 percent chance of showers. Late Thursday, a high-pressure system will push a cool front in. Saturday is expected to be dry during the day, with showers developing in the evening.

And if you’re keeping score, the price of gasoline is $2.43 for regular, about where it was in the spring.
