The shopping days before Christmas dwindle to a precious few, but Winterfest continues every evening in Ocean City, Maryland, through Jan. 1. I believe the town’s motto might be: “If it doesn’t move, decorate it with lights!”

The most spectacular Winterfest display is in the Northside Park at 127th Street. It’s open from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.,  Sunday through Thursday, and from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings. Bring your hat, scarf and gloves for a ride on the Winterfest Express, which costs $4. There’s also a huge heated tent, where you can warm up with a cup of hot chocolate and a picture with Santa.

Another impressive lighted display, though not as extensive, is at the Inlet Parking Lot. You can view the displays on the beach from the comfort of your heated car, and drive through the Tunnel of Lights. No cost at the Inlet lot.

The Ocean City sunshine is bright on the second day of winter, but cold weather has definitely arrived from the north. Temperatures fell into the 20’s during the night. This afternoon, bank signs along the Coastal Highway report 31 and 32 degrees, and gasoline is $1.53 a gallon for regular. The 20 mph winds, with gusts to 30 and 40 mph, make it feel colder. Don’t tell me what the wind chill is! I don’t want to know.

Merry Christmas to all!
