Parallel Universes in Maryland: Einstein H.S. and Chevy Chase

Posted on April 12, 2008

Maryland is a land of parallel universes, and so too is Montgomery County.

This week brings news of a gun marketing scheme that misfired at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington.

Einstein has one of the more diverse student bodies in the state, according to The Washington Post. The students are among the least affluent in Montgomery County, and more than a few of them are poor. Also reported outside the school: A fight apparently involving Latino gang members on one side, and African-American gang members on the other.

As it happens, Einstein High School is located in the heart of Montgomery County’s District 18. The same compact district also includes hyper-affluent Chevy Chase.

Not to worry. Montgomery County and District 18 are represented by some of the sharpest minds in the Maryland General Assembly.

In this land of parallel universes, many of the sharpest minds are keenly focused on the pressing problem of protecting a very few wealthy Marylanders from the “Millionaires’ Tax.”

It is reassuring to know that the sharpest minds have their priorities in order and are representing all of their constituents. — Bernie Hayden
