Half the Money Is Wasted

I’d guess it takes $100,000 to run for House of Delegates in Maryland, and a cool half-million to run for State Senate, in a contested primary or general election. Your mileage may vary.

Participation is mostly limited to people who are rich enough to spend their own money without missing it, or wreckless  enough to mortgage the family home.

I read somewhere that half the money spent on election campaigns is wasted, but nobody knows which half.
