In Town, On The Streets
Starting out on a cheerful note, Christmas decorations are up at City Hall. Coming soon, the Winterfest of Lights. Watch this space for details. Note the traffic barrel in the middle of Baltimore Avenue on Friday afternoon, to create one lane southbound and one lane northbound.
Water up to the wooden walkway outside these condos on St. Louis Avenue. Still a while to go until Friday-afternoon high tide.
Third Street in front of historic St. Paul’s By the Sea on Friday afternoon. This is way more cars than usual on Third Street, or any Ocean City side street, on an off-season weekday. Lots of folks were out to see the beach and the ocean. Only one of those cars is mine.
Most downtown streets were flooded both Thursday and Friday afternoons around high tide. These pictures were taken at an intersection on St. Louis Avenue, with the water a little deeper than the curbs. No problem if you’re driving a pickup.
Philadelphia Avenue southbound is closed by police mid-afternoon Friday. Traffic was detoured to Baltimore Avenue, and traveled down to the Route 50 bridge without incident. A better arrangement than Thursday afternoon, when my car had to plow through three blocks of standing water on Philadelphia Ave.
