Rep. Frank Kratovil, the freshman Democratic congressman from the Eastern Shore, joined the team by voting with President Barack Obama and the overwhelming majority of Maryland’s congressional delegation to pass the economic stimulus package.
The federal economic stimulus reportedly has the potential to create or save 66,000 jobs in Maryland over the next two years, and 8,200 jobs in Rep. Kratovil’s First Congressional District. In addition, Federal aid to Maryland will help state and local governments balance their budgets and possibly prevent layoffs at the state and local levels. Nine of Maryland’s 10 House and Senate members voted to pass the bill, and only one congressman, Roscoe Bartlett from Western Maryland, voted against.
“Although this bill is still far from perfect, in a crisis of this magnitude we can’t afford to let the perfect be the enemy of the necessary,” Kratovil said after voting for the economic stimulus.
