My family and I experienced the Winterfest lights in Ocean City, Maryland, for the first time on Thanksgiving evening. My poor photos do not do justice to the dazzling and creative displays. I recommend you see for yourself.
The main Winterfest display is at the Northside Park, at 125th Street and the Bay. You pay $4 per person, board the open-air Winterfest Express, and enjoy a feast of lights that will definitely put you in the Christmas spirit. Wear a hat, scarf and gloves, if the temperature is chilly, and it usually is, once the sun goes down, at this time of year.
The lights are on from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday nights, and 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m on Fridays and Saturdays, through New Years.
An excellent display of lights (but not as extensive as at Northside Park) can be viewed on the beach at the Inlet Parking Lot. The Inlet light spectacular is Priceless, as we say here, which means free.
(I think Dick Lohmeyer, the late great newsman and publisher, popularized “Priceless” in Ocean City. Priceless was the price he proudly printed at the top of his first newspaper, The Maryland Coast Press, many years ago. The Maryland Coast Dispatch, published Fridays, remains Priceless.)
At the inlet, you can view the lights up close from the warmth of your car. Just drive into the Inlet Parking Lot (no charge, this time of year), and enjoy.
Stay tuned for more Winterfest pictures. And Happy Advent! – Bernie Hayden

Our family has enjoyed Winterfest for many years. I wrote a blog post on it just a few weeks ago.
