Slots Are Poison. Just My Opinion

Haven’t we got enough problems? Drugs, gangs, crime, poverty, homelessness, dysfunctional families, hungry children, dangerous neighborhoods. Do we really want to add slot machine gambling on top of it all? It boggles the mind. Slots would be like throwing gasoline on a burning building.

What can our leaders be thinking? They’re smart enough to understand the social costs of addictive gambling. And make no mistake, slots are addictive.

We’re losing money to Delaware, West Virginia, Atlantic City, and now Pennsylvania. So big deal. It’s small change compared to the human suffering, desperation and financial ruin that slots would bring. Sure, slots are fun. It’s dangerous fun, best enjoyed at a safe distance. Go ahead and take a day trip to one of those sorry states. Lose some money, have some fun. And come home with your dignity. If slots were in your community, down your street and around your corner, it would be too easy to have fun every night. Chase the high 24-7. Crime and drugs all around. No thank you.

Let those other states have the money, and the consequences. Let Maryland be an oasis of health and sanity. Just my opinion.
